You can pair your Ubiquiti devices, such as the UniFi AP AC Lite, UniFi AP AC Long Range (LR), UniFi AP AC Pro, or UniFi AP AC HD, with the new Captive Portal feature from Jervis Systems.
This way, you can configure your guest network based on the reservations you import into Jervis. Simply, when your guest connects to your access point, they can access your internet by entering their last name and their door code!
During this process, you can specify what type of information your user needs to fill out from the captive portal settings page. This information can be checked on the Guest Wi-Fi Users page and downloaded as a CSV file from the marketing page.
Additionally, you can determine the URL to redirect to after login from the settings page. Your guest’s session will end after their checkout date, and they will no longer have access.
To enable all these features on your access point, you need to adopt your device into the Jervis Systems UniFi Controller.
Let’s go through these steps:
- First, send us a Support Request from your Jervis account (Support < Support Request in your Jervis dashboard) to inform us and share the following information.
Please copy and paste the section below with your answers below the questions in the support ticket.
—-
Jervis Account Information:
What email address is associated with your Jervis account?
(Your answer here)
Guest Network Details:
What name would you like your Guest Wi-Fi network name (SSID) to be called?
(Your answer here)
What password would you like to have to protect your Guest Wi-Fi network?
This is not required, but highly recommended.
(Your answer here)
Admin Network Details:
Do you want us to set up an Admin Wi-Fi network for you?
We recommend only using the UniFi devices for Guest access and have a separate router (ex. your ISP router) as your admin network router.
(Your answer here)
What password would you like to have to protect your Admin Wi-Fi network?
(Your answer here)
Other Information:
Is there another network you want us to set up? If so, please send the same information as above.
Are there specific radios you want to be broadcasted for any of your networks above (2.4GHz, 5Ghz, mixed network, etc.)?
(Your answer here)
—- - Your UniFI access point must be reset to factory settings. To do this, insert an object like a paperclip into the reset hole while the device is on and wait for 5 seconds. The light will first turn solid white, then start blinking, and after a few minutes, it will become solid white again.
- After this process, you need to connect to the network that your access point is connected to with your computer. You will also need the IP address of your access points on the network. There are a few methods to obtain this:
– If available you can connect via your modem’s internal Wi-Fi or cable to the network.
– If not, download the UniFi mobile application to your phone, select the add device option from the UniFi devices tab, scan the QR code on the back of your AP, and connect via Wi-Fi. After pressing the connect button and waiting for a while, the connection will be established. At this stage, do not proceed with the adopt process and exit the UniFi mobile application. Copy the Wi-Fi name and password from your phone’s Wi-Fi settings and enter these to access the network through your UniFi device with your computer. - Then, you need to enter the modem’s interface to find out the IP address of your UniFi device or use a LAN scan program (LANscan on Mac, Angry IP Scanner on Windows etc) or the UniFi app for your phone should show the IP address of your UniFi access points.
- After you find the IP address of your device.
On Windows, use the Putty SSH client. You can find this under Alternate Binary Files, download 64-bit version of putty.exe and launch this.
In the host name field, put in the IP address of your access point you discovered from step 3 and 4.
Leave the port as 22 press Open.
On the terminal screen that loads up, accept the certificate warning you receive. Put in ubnt as the username and ubnt as the password.
On Mac, use the SSH command in the terminal application to connect to the AP:
ssh ubnt@<ap_ip>
(password is ubnt)
On some newer access points, the username might be ui. If so, use the SSH command below:
ssh ui@<ap_ip>
(password is ui)
- Enter the following command to reset factory settings:
syswrapper.sh restore-default
- After reboot, SSH again into the access point (Step 6) and type the following command to set the new controller (Jervis UniFi Controller) address:
set-inform http://unifi.accessmyproperty.com:8080/inform
- You can now close your SSH client.
- Please reply back to the ticket you created in step 1 and let us know that this has been completed.
- After approval, you can start using Jervis Systems’ captive portal features. If you have already not done so, you can make changes from your Jervis Systems account to customize your portal view to finish your Guest Wi-Fi setup. Our guide here shares the step-by-step process and overview of remarketing features here.
