Smart locks compatible with Jervis, including KIC, TrueSecure, and older RemoteLock devices, are not connected to Wi-Fi 24/7.
Instead, they wake up, connect briefly to sync data, and go back to sleep. This is intentional, since a constant Wi-Fi connection would drain the battery in a fraction of the time.
Two settings control exactly when and how often this happens:
Wi-Fi Heartbeat Timer: Sets a recurring schedule for the lock to connect to Wi-Fi. Configurable from every 5 minutes to once every 24 hours.
Wake Wi-Fi: Determines whether a keypad interaction (like a guest entering a code) triggers an immediate check-in, in addition to the scheduled heartbeat.
For the best balance of battery life and responsiveness, we recommend:
Wi-Fi Heartbeat Timer: Set to 24 hours
Wake Wi-Fi: Enabled on keypad activity
With this setup, the lock stays asleep until a guest or staff member interacts with the keypad. At that point, it wakes up, connects to Wi-Fi, downloads any pending updates (new access codes, configuration changes), uploads recent activity, and goes back to sleep, all in seconds. The 24-hour heartbeat serves as a fallback to keep things synced even on quiet days.
Not sure which platform your lock is running on? Check the serial number on the back of the device:
AC000W — e.g. AC000W123456K — e.g. K52, K72, KCMNote: RemoteLock is no longer producing new hardware, and its cloud platform (Ayla) is no longer being updated. Existing devices will continue to function but won’t receive new features or fixes. New locks sold through RemoteLock channels may use KIC hardware. Check the serial number to confirm.
